Thoughts on the trade

So I am still pretty torn on the trade at this point after having a couple hours to think about it. I honestly can see both sides as to why this deal was done. This is the quote by Joe Sakic as to why it was done.

"“Maxime is a veteran forward who has won a Stanley Cup and has a lot of NHL experience,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “We’re looking forward to him bringing that experience to our club."

On one hand you have a 10 and 1 hockey club with downie playing on the top line of that until the last game. he has scored a goal and has 6 assists. that alone makes you wonder why exactly they are doing this now.  But If the avs are seriously thinking they are going to make a solid play off run, (and at this point and their record who can blame them if they are?) then you can start to understand why they might want another vetran player who has been there before. Especially since he was there a few years back with fairly young pitsburg penguins team.  In the deal the avs save a little bit of money on the contract, and get back someone who has some experience. The other reason i can see that maybe had some influence on this move is the list of top 10 dirtiest players in the NHL that was released last week, Downie featured fairly high on that list. so maybe the avs are trying to get away from that thought of them being dirty. I am not sure why it went down, but i will have faith in Sakic and Roy and see how talbot looks tomorrow. What are your thoughts on the deal?

Welcome to the Avalanche Tablot

The Colorado Avalanche confirm they have made a 1 for 1 trade of steve downie for maxim talbot. Not sure how i feel about this quiet yet, will write up a more detailed post after class in a couple hours stay tuned

i can only hope this isnt true, Varly is on fire this season and I dont want to see a stupid mistake mess that up for the team

Where do the Avs rank in the latest NHL power rankings?

2. Colorado Avalanche (10-1-0, last week: 3) – Don Cherry called Matt Duchene the best player in the NHL during Coach’s Corner last weekend, and I wouldn’t argue after watching him dominate in Boston a few weeks ago.

If the Avs keep up this pace can they take out the #1 team in the power rankings? Pretty exciting to hear someone like Don Cherry calling an avalanche player the best player in the NHL. I think that this goal has some people starting to think that from last weeks game.

Despite 10-1 record, Patrick Roy changes up his lines...

Despite 10-1 record, Patrick Roy changes up his lines...
I thought this would happen at some point soon, but not with a 10-1 record. But, P.A. Parenteau and Steve Downie have switched lines. Parenteau is back with Matt Duchene on a line with Ryan O'Reilly, and Downie is on a line with Nathan MacKinnon and John Mitchell. Mitchell will skate at left wing on the third line until Jamie McGinn (knee) returns. That and more news from Avs practice today here: Read more at the Denver Post ›

What do you guys think? good idea, bad idea?

I think that it is a little hard to understand exactly why he might do that with a 10-1 start, but I do have trust in Roy so far this season he has seemed to push all the right buttons with the players, and the team has been playing well above expectations by most media critics.

Here we go!

This is going to be where i will review/rant/talk about any and all things related to the Colorado Avalanche NHL team. I love the team and have been avidly following them for years now. Will post a blog after each game reviewing what I thought about it, and I will sometimes post other thoughts/articles by others who follow the Avalanche. Lets go Avs!
